Kremidopita is a popular Mykonian dish made with tirovolia and, well, a lot of onions. Many guests fall in love at first bite. The sweetness of the onion balances the sharpness of the cheese, while the dill and other aromatics create a sensory overload. Fluffy and thick, hand-made pastry sheets encase the delectable pie, which can be found in practically every house on the island. The kind and welcoming residents might as well treat you to a slice or two!
Sweet cakes were a key food item created using any raw material available on the very barren island, such as almonds, eggs, butter, flowers, and cinnamon (growing crops was difficult at the time due to the island’s morphology). But don’t be deceived by the tiny ingredient list. Kalathaki and other sweet cakes are all quite flavorful.
